HOW TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF YOUR RENEWAL
Arizona DPS recommends submitting your renewal application as soon as your 90-day renewal window opens. While many applications are processed sooner, AZDPS advises applicants to allow up to 75 days for processing. All applicants must undergo and clear another FBI background check. If your application has been pending longer than expected, you may contact AZDPS by phone, email, or in person to request a status update.

Call AZDPS at 602-256-6280 to check the status of your renewal application. This is the direct phone number to the Concealed Weapons Permit Unit (CWPU). Calling this number allows you to bypass the AZDPS main phone number and automated prompts, which may save you time.
If the phone number you are calling from matches the number associated with your permit application, some of your information may automatically populate in the system. However, the agent is still required to verify your identity and may ask for your full legal name, date of birth, or Social Security number.
Once your identity has been verified, the agent can provide a status update on your application. If any documents or information are missing, the agent will let you know what is needed to complete your application. If your application has already been approved but you have not yet received your new permit card, be sure to inform the agent so they can review your record and provide additional assistance.
You may email them as well at CCW@AZDPS.GOV – Be sure to include your full legal name, date of birth, and application order #. Be clear with what you’re asking in the email. Being vague in the email will only delay in receiving a quick reply from the Concealed Weapons Permit Unit (CWPU) or sending multiple replies back and forth.
You may visit the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Public Services Center in Phoenix to check the status of your renewal application in person with a live agent. AZDPS is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is closed on all state and federal holidays. Be sure to bring a valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID. An agent will verify your identity and can provide a status update on your application.
When you arrive, enter through the main entrance and walk toward the back of the lobby. Use the self-service kiosk and select “CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMITS / LEOSA.” The kiosk will print a ticket number. Take a seat in the waiting area and watch the large TV monitor for your number to be called to Window 6, which serves the Concealed Weapons Permit Unit (CWPU). Keep in mind that other visitors may already be waiting with the same ticket number, so please use common courtesy and allow those who arrived before you to be assisted first.
Do not be concerned if Window 6 appears unattended or the light is off. CWPU staff work in a separate department and will come to the window when it is your turn. In many cases, wait times are relatively short and may average 5 to 10 minutes, depending on visitor volume.

ONCE YOU ARE APPROVED
Once approved, your new permit card should arrive within 10 business days by mail from USPS. It will arrive in a plain white letter envelope and it will say “Arizona Department of Public Safety.” Be careful not to confuse the envelope for junk mail. Please note, you will be issued a new permit #, but your expiration will remain the same as the previous issued card.

- Take a photo or make a photocopy and store it in a safe place. This way if you need to have it replaced again, you have your permit number.

How much does Arizona CCW renewal cost?
Arizona Department of Public Safety renewal fees are subject to change. The current online application renewal fee is $49.88 (credit card processing and service fees are included). You may pay with a credit or debit card.
If you mail the the renewal application, you must obtain a cashier’s check or money order may payable to “AZ DPS” for $43.00. Don’t forget to include your name and address if applicable. This way your payment matches your application if they become separated during processing.
Do I need fingerprints for Arizona CCW renewal?
No. New fingerprints are not required. They are only required if you miss the 60 day grace period and must reapply as a new applicant.
However, if you are 61 days past the expiration date, you must reapply as a new applicant. This means you must submit a new application, pay the AZDPS processing fee of $67.45, and submit new fingerprints. If you need help, visit our Resources page. Is there a grace period after my Arizona CCW permit expires?
Yes. Arizona provides a 60-day grace period following your permit expiration date. If your permit has expired, you should renew as soon as possible to avoid interruptions.
