WHAT IS THE CURRENT ARIZONA CCW RENEWAL PROCESSING TIME?

Processing times vary depending on application volume and submission method. Please allow AZDPS up to 75 days to process your renewal. Keep in mind that all renewal applicants must undergo and pass another FBI background check. Some renewals may be completed sooner, but Arizona DPS advises applicants to allow the full processing period before requesting updates. Online submissions are generally processed faster than mailed applications. Click here to Renew Your Permit.

We highly recommend submitting your renewal right at the start of your 90-day renewal window to allow Arizona DPS plenty of time to issue and mail your permit. This way you are not walking around with a expired Arizona CCW Permit while you wait for the new one to arrive. If you are unsure when your window opens, use our free Renewal Calculator now.

A NOTE FROM OUR TEAM
Processing times can vary throughout the year based on application volume and other factors. From our experience assisting Arizona CCW applicants and permit holders, submitting a complete application with clear documentation and accurate information can help avoid unnecessary delays. We recommend applying as soon as your 90-day renewal window opens rather than waiting until your permit is close to expiring.

How To Check On The Status Of Your Renewal

You have 4 options for checking the status of your renewal application. Option 4 is the most convenient.

Option 1: Check Online – If you’re not in any hurry, log into your Permitium online account. Simply enter your application order #, email address, and password. The system will show that your application is in “Pending” status.

Option 2: Email AZDPS – Send an email to ccw@azdps.gov and ask for a status update. Be sure to include your full legal name, phone number, the email address tied to your application, and your order number. You should receive an email reply from a representative from the CWPU.

Option 3: Visit AZDPS in Person – Visit the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Public Services Center in Phoenix for in-person assistance with your renewal application. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding state and federal holidays.

Planning to visit in person? First get driving directions, then review our step-by-step AZDPS visitor guide so you’ll know exactly what to expect when you arrive.

Phoenix, AZ 85009

Option 4: Call AZDPS – Call AZDPS for a status update. Here is the direct phone number to the Concealed Weapons Permit Unit (CWPU): 602-256-6280. You do not need to call the main number and go through the prompts to reach the CWPU. You will be notified of your caller number in the queue. Please be patient. You may put the phone on speaker and multi-task. Once you get through, the agents are very nice and helpful. Let them know that you are calling to get a status update on your renewal application. The agent may ask for your order #, date of birth or social security number to verify and pull you up in their system.

When Should You Submit Your Arizona CCW Renewal?

You may submit your renewal within the 90-day renewal window before your permit expiration date. If you submit your renewal more than 90 days before expiration, AZDPS will reject your application and return it to you (if sent by mail). You will then need to wait until you are within the approved renewal window before resubmitting.

If you apply online outside the renewal window, AZDPS may not issue a refund. If you submit your application by mail, AZDPS will typically return your application to you. To avoid delays, submit your renewal during the 90-day renewal window before expiration. Use our free Renewal Calculator to determine your renewal eligibility dates.
