FINGERPRINTING FOR AN AZ CCW PERMIT
Online Applications: Electronic fingerprinting is the preferred method when submitting your Arizona CCW Permit application online. If you are unable to submit fingerprints electronically, you may submit two completed physical fingerprint cards to AZDPS.
Mailed Applications: If you submit your Arizona CCW Permit application by mail, two completed physical fingerprint cards must accompany your application. The fingerprint cards must be completed by a qualified fingerprint technician.
WHAT IS ARIZONA CCW FINGERPRINTING?
Here Are The Guidelines
✅ All new applicants are required to submit new fingerprints with their application (even if you already have a fingerprint clearance card).
✅ Fingerprints are required to undergo an FBI background check.
✅ AZDPS cannot process your application until they have received your fingerprints.
✅ You must clear the FBI background check in order to be issued a permit.
✅ Not required for renewal applicants.
⭐ OPTION 1: Electronic Fingerprinting
Electronic fingerprinting is recommended by Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Concealed Weapons Permit application for first-time applicants. This is the method recommended by AZDPS for most first-time applicants and is generally the easiest and most convenient option.
✅ Your online application must be submitted first with AZDPS.
✅ You will receive an automated email from auto@permitium.com once the application has been submitted. Follow the detailed instructions. There are two valid codes in that same email to get yourself scheduled successfully.
✅ You must create an account with Fieldprint.
✅ Enter the two valid codes included in that email.
✅ Enter the same personal information exactly as it appears on your AZDPS application.
✅ Choose a location, date, and time for an appointment.
✅ Pay the Fieldprint fee (typically $8–$10) online using a credit or debit card.
✅ Show up to your appointment. The process will only take 5-10 minutes to complete in person.
✅ Your fingerprints will be sent electronically directly to AZDPS for processing.
COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID:
Applicants schedule with a third-party live-scan provider instead of Fieldprint. Electronic fingerprint appointments must be scheduled through Fieldprint using the instructions provided by AZDPS.
Applicants submit electronic fingerprints BEFORE they submit their online application with AZDPS.
Applicants use the wrong link to book their appointment and use the wrong codes.
Carefully follow the detailed instructions from the Arizona Department of Public Safety once your application has been submitted. Watch for an email from auto@permitium.com after submitting your AZDPS application.
OPTION 2: PHYSICAL FINGERPRINT CARDS
Physical fingerprint cards are typically used by applicants who cannot complete electronic fingerprinting or who are submitting a paper application by mail. If you cannot submit electronic fingerprints, you may submit two completed physical fingerprint cards. They must be ink-rolled by a qualified fingerprint technician through any third party. You may mail these cards with your paper application directly to AZDPS.

REQUIREMENTS:
✅ AZDPS requires (2) completed physical fingerprint cards.
✅ Fingerprints must be ink-rolled or digitally rolled and printed onto the FBI FD-258 cards (blue and white 8″ x 8″ cards).
✅ May be completed by any third-party qualified fingerprint technician.
✅ Make sure all the appropriate field boxes are completed correctly, using black ink. Any missing fields or errors will only delay the processing of your application.
✅ The average price for (2) physical fingerprint cards will cost around $50-$75.
✅ Make sure you call the vendor before you arrive to ensure they offer the service onsite, require an appointment, and verify their fees and form of payment accepted.
COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID:
The technician fails to roll your fingerprints onto the fingerprint cards.
The field boxes are incomplete or not completed correctly.
The fingerprints are too light, too dark, blurry, smudged, or smeared.
The technician forgets to sign and date the cards.
The applicant forgets to sign the cards.
Social security # is missing.
Only 1 card is mailed, instead of 2 cards.
Incorrect mailing address is listed on the envelope.
Incorrect amount of postage included on the envelope.
If the fingerprints are bent upon arrival, they will be rejected.
If any of these mistakes occur above, your entire application packet will be returned to you for correction. Which will only delay the application and approval processing. If you do not resolve the issues in a timely manner, your application may be closed and require a new submission.
If possible, choose Option 1 and submit your fingerprints electronically through Fieldprint to reduce the likelihood of delays caused by incomplete or rejected fingerprint cards.
DROP OFF YOUR FINGERPRINT CARDS AT AZDPS
If you prefer, you may visit the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Public Services Center in Phoenix to drop off your fingerprint cards in person. Before visiting, make sure your fingerprint cards are completed correctly before arriving at the Public Services Center. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding Arizona state and federal holidays.
One advantage of submitting your fingerprint cards in person is that you can ensure they were received by a CWPU Agent. The agent can also verify that they were completed correctly. Mailing your fingerprint cards may cause your fingerprints to bend upon arrival or even get lost in transit.

I already have a fingerprint clearance card, do I still have to get fingerprinted again?
Yes. Arizona CCW applicants must submit a new set of fingerprints with each new permit application, even if they already have a valid fingerprint clearance card.
Can I do my own fingerprints?
No. Physical fingerprint cards must be completed by a qualified fingerprint technician. The technician must properly roll your fingerprints, complete the required fields, and sign and date the cards. This helps prevent delays or rejection by AZDPS.
If my physical fingerprint cards get rejected, can I submit electronic ones?
Yes. As long as you have received an automated confirmation email from AZDPS confirming your online application has been submitted. You will need the Application Order # found in that email. If my physical fingerprint cards are rejected, can I get my money back?
That depends on the fingerprint vendor. Some vendors may redo your fingerprint cards at no additional charge, while others may require a new payment. You may also contact the same vendor and ask whether they will redo your fingerprint cards at no additional charge. For this reason, we recommend saving your receipt and making a note of the fingerprint technician’s name. However, if the fingerprint cards were completed incorrectly, it may be best to use a different vendor.
If you have received an Application Order # from AZDPS, you may submit fingerprints electronically through Fieldprint and pay the fee of $8-$10. This is the quickest and easiest option.
What happens if I mailed my fingerprints and they get lost?
Unfortunately, if this happens, contact AZDPS first at 602-256-6280 to confirm if they have received them. If they confirm they have not received them, your only option is to get another set completed and mail those in again to AZDPS. When resubmitting your fingerprint cards, verify the mailing address and include the correct postage. But if you reside in Arizona, you may also go to AZDPS and drop them off in person to ensure they are received by an CWPU Agent.
Or if you have received an Application Order #, you may submit fingerprints electronically through Fieldprint and pay the fee of $8-$10. This is the quickest and easiest option.
I have a few extra fingerprint cards completed in the past. May I submit those?
Yes, provided the fingerprint cards are complete, legible, and all required fields have been properly completed. However, we generally recommend obtaining a new set of fingerprint cards to reduce the chance of processing delays or rejection.
How long are Arizona CCW fingerprints valid?
Arizona CCW fingerprints are submitted with your permit application and are used for that application only. If you submit a new Arizona CCW permit application in the future, AZDPS will require a new set of fingerprints. Renewal applicants do not submit fingerprints.
What should I do if my Arizona CCW Permit is lost or stolen?
If your Arizona CCW permit is lost or stolen, you should request a replacement permit from AZDPS as soon as possible. You may apply online, by mail, or in person. Once a replacement permit is issued, your original permit number will no longer be valid.
Does a replacement Arizona CCW Permit extend my expiration date?
No. A replacement permit only replaces your physical permit card. Your original expiration date remains the same and does not change when a replacement card is issued.
Does my permit number remain the same?
No. Your old permit number is no longer valid. You will be issued a new permit number on your replacement Arizona CCW permit card. Your original expiration date will remain unchanged.
Can I get a replacement card and keep my original when I find it?
No. AZDPS only issues one valid Arizona CCW permit card at a time. If a replacement permit is issued, the original permit card and permit number are no longer valid. If you later find your original permit card, you should use your new permit card and destroy the old one.
How long does it take to receive a replacement Arizona CCW permit?
Once approved, replacement permits are typically mailed by AZDPS and often arrive within a few weeks. Processing times may vary depending on application volume and submission method.
How much does it cost to replace an Arizona CCW permit?
The fee is $10, plus credit card processing and service fees if submitted online. If you are paying with a cashier’s check or money order, there may be a small vendor fee.
Can I replace a damaged Arizona CCW permit?
Yes. If your Arizona CCW permit is damaged, faded, broken, or otherwise unreadable, you may request a replacement permit card through AZDPS.
Can I replace my Arizona CCW permit online?
Yes, you may submit an online request. The fee is $10, plus credit card processing and service fees.
When can I renew my Arizona CCW permit?
You may start the renewal process within 90-days of the expiration date listed on your permit card. If you submit your renewal greater than 91-days, AZDPS will kick back your application. Can I renew my Arizona CCW permit online?
Yes. Eligible permit holders may renew online through the Arizona Department of Public Safety during their renewal window. Make sure you are within the 90-day window or 60-day grace period. Please click here for more information and to submit your application online.
How much does Arizona CCW renewal cost?
Arizona Department of Public Safety renewal fees are subject to change. The current online application renewal fee is $49.88 (credit card processing and service fees are included). You may pay with a credit or debit card.
If you mail the renewal application, you must obtain a cashier’s check or money order made payable to “AZ DPS” for $43.00. Don’t forget to include your name and address if applicable. This way your payment matches your application if they become separated during processing.
Do I need fingerprints for Arizona CCW renewal?
No. New fingerprints are not required. They are only required if you miss the 60 day grace period and must reapply as a new applicant.
However, if you are 61 days past the expiration date, you must reapply as a new applicant. This means you must submit a new application, pay the AZDPS processing fee of $67.45, and submit new fingerprints. If you need help, visit our Resources page. How long does Arizona CCW renewal take?
Processing times vary depending on application volume and submission method. Please give AZDPS up to 75 days to process your renewal. Online submissions are generally processed faster than mailed applications.
Is there a grace period after my Arizona CCW permit expires?
Yes. Arizona provides a 60-day grace period following your permit expiration date. If your permit has expired, you should renew as soon as possible to avoid interruptions.
